You have to actually take your thumb off the button to slow down.  If you don't the cars will fly off the track.  They are pretty darn fat. He is young at about 4 or so years old so it's best to makes sure the kids are just kind of playing with it with you or a supervising adult.  I know it's meant for an older kid probably like 7 years old, But he just really loves cars already so it's really fun for him to just sit there and watch us play with it, and we enjoy the nostalgia of playing it as it reminds us (the adults lol) of playing with these kinds of toys when we were young to be honest.  The quality is pretty good and the cars go really fast so again, supervision if the child is young would be advisable.  They even light up as they go, and the loops are awesome fun, you have to get it at just the right speed, that's what makes this a lot of fun, the challenge of it I suppose.  Anyway, great gift for the nephew but also for us adults too, like I said it's a nostalgia trip mostly...and great fun for our little nephew to enjoy watching.
